December 3rd, Richmond Hill Georgia held their 26th Annual Christmas Parade.
Above is the parade staging area and route.

We gathered at the staging area between 7:00 AM and 8:30 AM. We had three Studebaker's representing the So. Ga. Studebaker Chapter, Michael & Corinne Benson’s 1955 Commander, Andria & Terry Brooks’ 1959 Silver Hawk and 1962 GT Hawk. Terry had decorated the 59 and 62.
At 10:00 AM the first positions began the parade; we were in position nineteen of one hundred and ten. We had asked to be close to the front since these old cars like to overheat when traveling so slow as we handed out candy to the children along the route. |
This year we had purchased extra candy so we would not run out as we had the past few years, but the crowd was enormous and you guessed it, Terry made it just past the mid way mark of the parade route when he handed out his last pieces of candy from the 59. Andria lasted a little longer in the 62 GT Hawk, the three fourths mark of the parade route.

A CSX train passed through town just after the first seventeen cars and floats had crossed the tracks stranding our Studebaker's and the remaining cars and floats from the end of the parade route.
Fortunately, the train was not to long and passed quickly so the parade could continue. Mike & Corinne throwing candy to the children.

Andria and I had friends ride with us to hand out candy on the passenger sides of our cars. Thank you John & Kathy Breen of Richmond Hill, Georgia for pitching in.
We had fun and can’t wait until next year with even more candy!

Cartersville on Oct 15th River Car Show
Henry Malin, North Georgia Studebaker Chapter member and I attended the Ridz by the River Car Show with our Studebakers in Cartersville on Oct 15th. It was a beautiful warm day with a clear blue sky. The earlier show in the Spring had a reported 1200 cars. We didn’t get a car count for this Fall event but there were a LOT of cars there, a swap meet and tons of spectators. I drove my “old yeller” pickup and Henry drove his copper colored 51 bullet nose business coupe. His car’s unique shape generated a lot of interest and dialogue. We didn’t partake of any of the numerous food trucks, as the lines were long, but we enjoyed the live music and constant stream of passers by who all took time to admire the vehicles. It was a great day and we enjoyed the show.
