PROGRESS REPORT 12/01/2012
63 Studebaker GT Hawk
The fuel system has been refurbished from the fuel tank to the carburetor. Attached pictures show parts of the process. The fuel tank was removed. The fuel gauge sending unit was badly rusted and the cork float had disintegrated, and several small pieces were sloshing around inside the tank… occasionally lodging themselves against the fuel feed tube blocking the fuel from leaving the tank. The tank was in reasonably good condition, so it was cleaned out and acid washed until the surface rust was gone. The tank was painted and a new fuel sending unit installed.
Before re-installing the tank, the rusty areas of the trunk were treated with a rust converter, (underside and inside of trunk). The trunk was painted to cover the black rust converter. All of the rubber fuel lines were replaced. A new in line filter and new fuel pump installed. The fuel pressure switch was removed as were the rubber fuel hoses and fittings which were not original. Proper fittings were obtained, and fuel lines made up to put the fuel bowl and feed lines back to original design. The carburetor was dis-assembled and overhauled. The manual choke cable was removed, and original automatic choke assembly reactivated. Points, condenser, and rotor were installed before starting and tuning the engine. The engine now starts and runs well. The engine sounds good and has good power. Fuel gauge is working. The car has been test driven and a list of recommendations for the next phase is being compiled.
Presents well from a few feet, but the paint is not good, particularly on the front. She needs cosmetic restoration, but the initial evaluation that Dave Berghoefer did on her before I bought her. One of several “progress reports” from the mechanic. I also have his initial inspection report.
New Tires and checked out by mechanic January of 2023.

My name is Cheryl Schroeder, and I am the executor of my father's estate in McDonough, GA. My father collected old cars his whole life and now that he is passed, they have become my responsibility. While he had several 1936 Fords, a 33 and a 34 Dodge, I am writing to you today because of his 1936 Studebaker. He purchased it on eBay in December 2008 and began a frame off restoration. As he became ill, all restoration efforts stopped, and the car has been sitting idle on the property ever since. As we are researching this car, we believe it to be fairly rare, but you would know more about that than I. As you can see from the pictures, it has been completely dismantled. The frame has been rebuilt, he acquired a motor and transmission (missing from the original car in 2008) and has purchased numerous chrome and accessory pieces. The body parts are in good shape, no rust. Also, there are additional parts I have not taken pictures of but are available to go with the car. We will be posting this car on eBay in the coming weeks and will be accepting offers and available to show the car this weekend (April 2-3) in McDonough. We live in Florida and will be shipping it to our home, but the price will go up. I would appreciate your help and knowledge in selling this car on behalf of the estate. It would mean a lot to have this car go to someone in your club who would really appreciate it. Cheryl Schroeder (813) 368-7124 More pics here: https://bit.ly/36studebaker |
